Dancing with the Fundamentals of Learning

Watching the children during Saturday`s Dance Performance I was captivated by the energy, learning potential and natural talents the children displayed.   

As an educator of young children I have come to sincerely appreciate a well rounded and diversified curriculum and recognize the many benefits and far reaching effects it has on a child. I feel Saturday`s performance is a fine example of this belief.

The preparation put into achieving Saturday`s success provided the children with ample opportunity for a diversified learning experience.  In a broad sense the children were introduced to a concept of countries from around the world coming together to participate in the event of World Cup. In a more concrete way, the children experienced coming together as the classes of the Infantil Bilingual Programme to create their very own event based on a learned skill and talent. In learning that skill, their dance routine, children learned the significance of the school community as they learned as much from their peers as they did from their instructors. During the production of this performance, the importance of working as a collective to achieve greatest potential was essential. It was the cooperation between students with their teachers, as well as with each other that made this event possible.  





Seeing the pride the children had for themselves after their success was evidence for the far reaching effects an event like this has on a child`s self esteem and confidence. This personal growth will last long after their memories of what they have achieved have faded.  

Finally, looking out into the crowd of parents, relatives and friends who came in support of all children involved reminded the children that their efforts and capabilities are encouraged, recognized, and celebrated.


But to be honest, more than anything, watching the children on Saturday, what I was captivated by most was seeing the children having fun, at school; using what they have learned from their collective experience to display their capabilities as individuals. In the end, isn`t that what it`s all about?
