Show "Poemas Brasileiros"

“On the 20th of May 2011, I was given the opportunity to go and watch Wanderson Lopez perform.  There were two reasons I chose to go and watch on a incredibly wet Friday night.  Firstly, I think the Carlos Gomes theatre in Centro is really unique for the whole of the Vitória area and reminds me of home because of the beautiful European architecture.  Secondly and most importantly, I have been lucky enough to see Wanderson play before at the ‘Feira do Verde’. Wanderson is an incredibly talented musician.  His guitar playing skills and style of play is for me, very unique.  To play these guitars which have so many strings and to execute it with such passion was something that really impressed me.
Not only were the incredible sounds coming from Wanderson´s array of guitars leaving me in awe, but he also had a multitude of other performers playing with him at different points throughout the show.  Our very own Pedro de Alcântara came on to stage for 2 tracks to add his excellent accordion skills to the night.  A fantastic wind musician was playing for most of the night with saxophones and other brass instruments.  But if that wasn’t enough to accompany the terrific bass player, there was not only one percussionist, but two, both jamming together with several instruments and sounds and for me good percussion is the catalyst for a great show so to have two made the night really special.  Personally, I really enjoy long music 7,8, 9 minute tracks so for me the night was perfect to really leave me in a Brazilian state of trance.  It really was a fantastic evening. I’m even going to say it was the best show I have seen so far in Brazil, certainly in Vitória.  The sounds echoing through this old theatre will stay with me long after I have left Brazil”.

“Wanderson Lopez is an amazing guitarist who put on a show at The Carlos Gomes Theater in downtown Vitoria.  I was blown away by his artistry. He is quite the technician, and his creative interpretations of challenging Brazilian music was staggering.  Sometimes Vitoria seems to be less of a cultural metropolis when compared to bigger cities with larger artistic budgets.  However, on nights like “Poemas Brasileiras” I could not help feeling the talent, passion, and genius seeping from the Capixaba ports.  I hope to see more from Wanderson Lopez in the near future”.
