The 9th grade students of CENTRO EDUCACIONAL LEONARDO DA VINCI, motivated by the tests made by INMETRO (National Institute of Measurements) in our city (Vitória) to check out accusations of gasoline adulteration in gas stations, decided to do their own tests. Both types of gasoline (NORMAL and SPECIAL) were tested.
Guided by their chemistry teachers (Douglas and Marcos) the students learned about the chemical process that determinates the amount of alcohol mixed with the gasoline - the legally allowed amount is between 20 and 24 percent.
Half of the 9th grade, divided in four small groups, performed the test in four samples of gasoline (two of the "normal" type and two of the "special" type of gas) and considered that all samples were suitable for the use.
