Research Methodology

We are beginning in 1998, in Centro Educacional Leonardo da Vinci, a pioneer project of learning about research.



The Research Methodology Workshop was created given the difficulty that the students have in all levels of elaboration of a research along its academic life.



We thought of introducing them to the world of basic research, motivating them to make their own elaborations, changing from a copy/paste study model, without interpreting with property, to a model where the student, starting from data, expresses his thought.



To make the learning process happen, the students will learn that to do a research they need to:

1 - make a small project.

2 - make a criterious bibliographical selection.

3 - learn which are the sources of information and what to do with them.

4 - learn to write a bibliography correctly.

5 - learn that the final product of a research is not a copy of books, nut a unique text, built based on comprehension of what was read.



The Workshop has, today, with 5 5th grade students, advancing in their research day by day. The students have already determined their research project: the theme is "Ethnic Formation of the Brazilian People". They made a bibliographical survey in our library and in the Central Library of Federal University of Espírito Santo - UFES - on April 3rd. Now they are going to read the selected texts and will late proceed to opinion research, in which he students will have opportunity to work with sampling, taking in consideration the socioeconomic and cultural aspects of the population.



The students already began to understand that a research can be a creative and joyful activity.
