As the festivities for the schools twentieth anniversary are in full gear, the inauguration of a new Leonardo Da Vinci museum exhibit at the Palacio de Achieta has brought new light to some old ideas. From simple sketches to complicated mechanical machines, the exhibit lets us peak into the mind of a genius, bringing a real life opportunity for hands on learning. The same has been taking place inside the classroom, as children of Infantil IV have been regularly exposed to many of the fascinating and at time whimsical inventions of the master himself.
From playing classroom games, to coloring famous da Vinci paintings such as the Mona Lisa, the children have gained a rare perspective into a part of renaissance history that few at this age are exposed to. By using a collaborative classroom activity such as arts and crafts, Infantil IV has also to completed “Dama com Arminho” as displayed in the picture above. Using yarn and cardboard squares our class completed this wonderful work of art using the original da Vinci master piece as inspiration.
During the beginning of the year mobiles had been prepared by our staff in order to exhibit all throughout the school. These crafts were directly associated with many famous inventions including the Asa delta, the Parachute, and Helicopter, some of which are on exhibit at the museum. Our children have been involved in learning about many of these inventions, as we have made every effort to bring the themes associated with the exhibit into the classroom. As educators we greatly encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity and spend a Saturday afternoon perusing the halls of the Palacio de Anchieta in order to not only see a spectacular exhibit, but also to help stimulate your child’s curiosity for learning.
