por Joanna DowThe bilingual program at Centro Educacional Leonardo da Vinci displayed another star performance with this year’s musical. Going with CELV’s 20th anniversary theme Leonardo da Vinci, the musical takes place in the Renaissance era inside a castle court of a goofy king and a bright and assertive queen.
With the first graders playing the characters the plot begins with a distressed kingdom because of a drought. Taking the advice of her counselors, the queen calls for the aid of Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci goes on to teach about the water cycle process, becomes the royal inventor, paints the Mona Lisa and lastly is rewarded with one wish; the liberty of caged birds.
Yet this is all told in three languages: the jesters or narrators kept the audience on track in Portuguese, the play itself was in English minus the character Leonardo da Vinci who spoke Italian.
In addition, using a variety of musical styles from gospel, salsa, drum and base to samba, students of Infantil supported the plot and brightened the stage with their singing and dancing.
