Christmas is one of the brightest and biggest times of the year, especially for children. From all sorts of colorful decorations, special songs, families and friends visiting from near and far, and most of all, the anticipation of Santa leaving a fantastic gift under the tree, magic and mystery fill the minds hearts of the young (and young at heart). With the holiday season and end of the school year right around the corner, Infantil III will be celebrating the holidays American style, frosted cookies all!
For the remaining weeks of school, Infantil III will be focusing on all things Christmas! We will be constructing our own Christmas tree using recyclable saved from our second semester project, singing and dancing along to “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, and we’ll even get a chance to play with “magic snow” that arrived in Brasil all the way from New York! But the best part about our celebration will be putting on our chef’s hat to bake up a tasty holiday treat!
We will be heading up to the kitchen on the fourth floor to create our own “Gingerbread Men” using a traditional American Sugar Cookie recipe, generally used to make “Christmas Cutouts.” To help amplify our studies, we will be reading the classic children’s story, “The Gingerbread Man,” in hopes that the students of Infantil 3 will be “running, running, as fast as they can…” all the way school for these last two exciting weeks!
As a foreign teacher, it is always valuable to consider incorporating the element of my own culture into my lessons. As this mystical season approaches, its good to keep in mind the importance of showing little ones, any where in the world, how many ways we can celebrate the holidays. By sharing my own culture and traditions with my students, each class becomes that much more special and memorable.
Wishing everyone a wonderfully bright and magical holiday season!
Merry Christmas! Feliz Natal! Boas Festas!
