Hello, and welcome to the beginning of a new year! As a new teacher to the bilingual
program, I am excited by the diverse curriculum and extensive facilities offered to both
students and staff within Centro Educacional Leonardo Da Vinci.
As the English Teacher for Grade One, my goal is to consistently challenge and improve the
English Ability of each individual student while having fun, developing or maintaining a positive
attitude towards the English Language.
As a teacher from Canada, I hope to contribute elements of Canadian Culture into the grade
one curriculum throughout the year. Valentines Day provided me with the opportunity to start
early! The annual holiday is celebrated on February 14th in both Canada and the United States
in honour of Saint Valentine. Valentines Day is a famous holiday celebrated differently around
world, but in Canada the holiday is traditionally a day to celebrate friends, family and loved
ones. Red, pink and white hearts are the most famous symbols and gifts of chocolate, flowers
and small cards are common.
To help the first grade students get into the Valentines Day Spirit, an Art Project incorporating
hearts of all sizes were put together to create "Love Bugs." Although the theme was Valentines
Day fun, my primary objectives throughout this activity were listening and speaking based.
During the past two weeks, I have been working with the grade one students on fundamentals
of listening carefully to instructions, following directions, and communicating in English. This art
project was perfect for use as students were instructed to listen carefully to directions which
were specific in size, shape and colour.
I was impressed with their results, as the finished project from each student reflected both their
English Ability and Artistic Talents!
Happy Valentines Day!
